About Cloud Server Pro

How many IPs do I get with Cloud Server Pro?

Servers with Plesk have 2 public IP addresses, and other servers have 1 public IP. Soon you will be able to purchase as many additional IPs as you wish for any server type.

Does Cloud Server Pro include backups for my application?

Locaweb doesn't do automatic backups, but customers can sign up for FTP Backup as an additional service, which provides a separate and secure environment permanently available to store your data.

Customers may also use the ability to create snapshots to back up your data on the server. Read more at Do snapshots replace backups?

Furthermore, it is important to point out that Locaweb Cloud Computing data storage is done on high-capacity storage equipment with disk, power and network redundancy, all to guarantee data security and availability. Even so, it is important to back up your data regularly.

Can I host games on my server?

No, for security reasons hosting multi-user games is not allowed on Cloud Server Pro.

Can I switch operating systems?

Yes, this change implies cancelling the current server and signing up for a new one with the Operating System. Data migration must be done by the customer.

How can I access my server?

On Linux servers, access is done via SSH, and on Windows servers via Remote Desktop.

What are snapshots?

Snapshots are data recovery points on the server. When you take a snapshot you save the state of the server at that precise moment, and it can be recovered when needed. This feature is useful when you need to make an update to the server but you need to have the option to restore it to its previous state, for instance.

Do snapshots replace backups?

Yes, the Snapshots´s information are in a high availability environment and replicated between two Locaweb Data Centers.

The Cloud Server Pro allows you to create two different Snapshots. We recommend the periodical creation of Snapshots, thus if it´s necessary you may recover the machine in a state close to the current.

The Snapshots store one version of all server information, including operating system, settings and data. When there is an eventual restoration, it all reverts to the snapshot. It´s not possible to restore just one part of data, such as a file or a database table. As in the Cloud Server Pro you have complete control of the server, you may also add your own backup solution.

The Backup FTP is a Locaweb´s alternative solution for backup and files partial restoration. In case of your Cloud Server Pro be canceled or the machine be reinstalled, the Snapshots will be removed with its all data stored.

How many snapshots can I take?

You may take as many snapshots as you like, but you can only have 2 snapshots stored on the server at any given moment.

How can I increase or decrease my Cloud Server Pro processing power?

The Cloud Server Pro processing power is defined by the amount of memory and vCPUs it has. Therefore, the more memory and vCPUs, the more processing power it will have.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my Cloud Server Pro?

Yes, you can upgrade memory, disk space and the data transfer limit, and downgrade memory and data transfer limits, but you cannot downgrade disk space. You can request upgrades and downgrades through the Control Panel and those will be applied a maximum of 3 hours after payment confirmation.

What are the available operating systems?

Cloud Server Pro can be created with the following operating systems.

  • Linux
  • Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - 32 and 64 bits
  • Debian 5.5 - 32 and 64 bits
  • Centos 5.3 - 32 and 64 bits

Is there an option to have my Cloud Server Pro managed by Locaweb?

About Cloud Computing Solution

What is the difference between Dedicated Servers, VPS and Cloud Computing?

Dedicated Servers are physical machines, totally dedicated and with high performance hardware. VPS (Virtual Private Servers) are a division of physical server resources, where the resources are assigned to a single customer, and where there is usually no resource guarantee for the customer.

Both in dedicated servers and in VPS servers, if there is a hardware failure, all the customers that depend on that hardware go offline. Since Cloud Computing is the division of resources from a group of tens of servers and storage servers, it provides scalability and guarantees performance, with hardware redundancy and high availability.

What is a vCPU?

Each Cloud Server Pro has part of the processing power of the server it is running on reserved for it. This amount is proportional to the amount of memory and vCPUs it has. Servers with up to 4GB memory have 2 vCPUs, those with 6GB to 12GB have 4 vCPUs, and those with more than 12GB have 8 vCPUs.

What is a VLAN?

Each Cloud Server Pro customer has an exclusive virtual network (VLAN), where all his servers are located. In this VLAN data are transferred totally isolated from other customers' data and doesn't go through any network equipment, increasing data transfer speed. These communications must be done through a Private IP on the server.

What is a Private IP?

The Private IP is the IP address used for the server to work within a VLAN. This is different from the public IP used to access the server through SSH or Remote Desktop.

What is SLA?

The Service Level Agreement (SLA) is a measure of the availability of a service, which expresses how long it should be available to the customer, expressed as a percentage. The SLA exists because we understand that, since we are working with machines and hundreds of pieces of interconnected infrastructure, some of it may occasionally suffer failures which may temporarily interrupt the service.

Cloud Server Pro has a 99,9% SLA. In case we need to perform routine maintenance that affects the server, we will notify our customers previously so that they can take the necessary steps to avoid problems, and in those cases the maintenance period is not considered for SLA analysis.

What is Plesk?

Plesk is a web hosting management system installed on a Debian 5.5 operating system platform. With it you can create and manage unlimited hosting accounts and resell them if you wish. The Plesk software we offer on Cloud Server Pro has the following features:

  • - Unlimited: you can create as many domains as you want.
  • - Power Pack: offers several extra features, such as an application installer, SpamAssassin, PostgreSQL, PhpPGAdmin, and supports Tomcat and ColdFusion.
  • - 3 language packages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
